We take many things for granted, including the freedom to enjoy days out to visitor attractions or perhaps a trip to the local shopping centre.
For an estimated 250,000 profoundly disabled people in the UK, and an even larger amount around the world, such outings need to be planned carefully in advance, and in some cases, a visit will be cancelled altogether due to the lack of adequate accessible toilets.
Standard accessible toilets are designed for independent users. There is usually room for a wheelchair-turning circle but not much else. For people who need help, there needs to be much more space for specialised equipment and for those providing assistance.
Height adjustable shower change tables ensure that no one needs to be changed or washed on the toilet floor. Recommendations in BS8300 (British Standard on Access to Buildings for Disabled People) require any height adjustable changing table installed in Changing Places to be at least 1800mm long and have a safe working load of 200kg. Ideally, the table should operate in a height range low enough for transfers from a wheelchair seat and high enough to provide a comfortable working position for any assistant or carer. At Pressalit, we recommend our Shower Change Table 3000.
Height adjustable sinks will provide comfortable positions for standing or seated users in Changing Places. Pressalit provides a variety of options that can be adjusted in height by as much as 500mm if necessary.
It is also good to provide some sort of adjustment around the toilet area. Height adjustable hinged toilet support arms will facilitate a greater number of transfers on and off the toilet and provide better support than fixed height support arms. Hinged arms with strong barrel hinges are robust and surfaces with warm slip resistant materials preferable to cold painted metal.
For any shower that might be included in a Changing Places facility, we recommend height adjustable chairs with backrests and support arms. Cleaning
Use a mild soap solution to clean the toilet seat. Please take care that the seat and hinges are not left damp. For disinfecting the seat, e.g. ethanol 85% can be used. Make sure that the product is wiped down with a soft rag wrung out in clear water and dried off with a soft, dry cloth immediately after disinfection. Avoid contact of the seat and hinges with abrasive, corrosive or chlorine-based cleaners, as these may cause damage or lead to flash rust. Therefore, when cleaning the bowl, make sure that the seat and cover are kept in an upright position until all cleaning agent has been flushed away.
Warranty
Your Pressalit toilet seat is subject to a 10-year product warranty against presentation of receipt. You should contact the dealer or store where you purchased the seat in the event of a complaint. In the event of complaints about defective materials and/or manufacturing defects and/or functional limitations ascertained within a 10-year period, following proper use and cleaning of the toilet seat (we reserve the right to examine the toilet seat at our factory), Pressalit will deliver spare parts or replace the toilet seat by an identical or similar model. If the color is no longer available, Pressalit reserves its right to replace the toilet seat by a similar model in the color white. Upon replacement or delivery of a spare part, the warranty period will not be extended nor renewed. If replacement is not possible, Pressalit may instead refund the purchase price.

Wash basin
For cleaning the wash basin, use hot water and a mild soapy cleaning agent. Make sure that the product is wiped down with a soft rag wrung out in clear water immediately after cleaning.
For disinfecting the wash basin, the following agents can be used:
Sodium hydroxide 5%
Acetic acid solution 10%
Ethanol solution 70%
Sodium hypochlorite 5%, active chlorine
Sodium chloride 170g/l, diluted to 50%.
Make sure that the product is wiped down with a soft rag wrung out in clear water immediately after disinfection.
NB! Do not use abrasive cleaning agents, as this will cause damage to the surface of the wash basin.

Pressalit recommends that chalky deposits be removed from wall tracks and other aluminum parts using a solution of three parts 30% acetic acid to seven parts tap water. When the aluminum parts have been washed down with this solution, the parts must be wiped over with a damp cloth wrung out in clear water.
